Cut flowers every day of the year.
The Cut Flower Garden continues a very "old school" gardening tradition. In the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries the "picking garden" was an essential component of any self respecting country garden. Life for an Edwardian country lady would have been unthinkable without one. Plants grown here would be chosen purely for their suitability as cut flowers. Perfection of bloom was the goal.
This garden allows us to grow plants such as those ungainly modern hybrid roses which as a shrub tend to be as ugly as sin but do produce blooms of incomparable beauty; in this garden such plants are safely tucked away. In addition to roses, we grow a range of bulbs, perennial and annuals that provide something worth picking ever week of the year. The garden provides a variety of situations ranging from full sun to dense shade with a pergola for climbers widening our options.
A wall of espaliered cherries provides an edible component to this garden room and provides much needed shelter from strong winds.
